Trout Unlimited’s On the Rise TV show, airing on the Sportsman Channel, resumed this week with a new host Jed Fiebelkorn, a Montana guide and former host of Fly Fisherman’s TV show. On the Rise focuses on great American trout rivers and the conservation issues surrounding them. In the first episode, Jed floats the Teton River with Mike Dawes of WorldCast Anglers and Kasey Collins, President of Teton Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter 721.
The Teton River is one of the last strongholds of native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. In 1976, The Teton River dam, which had just been constructed, broke after the first time it was filled. 80,000,000 gallons of water flooded the town of Rexburg downstream causing $300,000,000 in damage. Now, a new dam is being proposed. This season’s first episode is a great one not to be missed; both for the adventurous fishing (starting with having to get a raft down 1,000 feet of steep canyon banks) and for the important information about the proposed dam.
The show airs Friday, April 1 at 7:30 AM and on Saturday, April 2 at 12:30 PM. Check out the season’s full slate (including an episode on the Batten Kill, for which I was lucky enough to get Jed into some nice wild brown trout on my home river) at On the Rise
