Chesapeake Bay Foundation: Reef Ball Fact Sheet

For the second year in a row, an Orvis Customer Matching Grant has been awarded to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Oyster Restoration program. Oysters are one on Mother Nature’s most efficient water filters, and through the increase of their numbers and health, the health of the Bay is being reclaimed.

One of the most unique aspects of this innovative project is the construction and placement of reef balls, set with oyster spat, which create a safe and stable environment in which these baby oysters can grow. Here’s the most up-to-date information on these very nearly magical reef balls!
