Kelly Diversion in Wyoming

The Newbold Diversion on the Gros Ventre River in Kelly, Wyoming was well past its prime. Originally built to power flour and saw mills, the diversion had outlived its usefulness. In 2013, Trout Unlimited, with help from an Orvis grant, removed the obsolete dam, opening more than 100 miles of upstream spawning and rearing habitat to native trout and other fish. It’s part of the joint Orvis/TU effort to reconnect and restore rivers and streams and improve fishing opportunities. While the restoration project took months to complete, you can see it here in just a few minutes!
