Spring is right around the corner and it’s never too early to start planning your outdoor activities with family and friends. Each year, more and more, dog walks to help find cures for canine cancer are “springing” up, like the one at Elk Grove National Park in Elk Grove, California.

Join Morris Animal Foundation and Northern California dog lovers on Saturday, May 7, for the 3rd annual Morris Animal Foundation K9 Cancer Walk at Elk Grove Regional Park in Elk Grove. The event will benefit the Foundation’s Canine Cancer Campaign, an initiative to fund research to treat, prevent and, ultimately, cure cancer in dogs. To participate in this year’s K9 Cancer Walk, register at K9CancerWalk.

Discounted registration closes Sunday, April 24, and is $30 for adults and $15 for children aged 10 through 17.

Walk-day registration is $35 and begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. The event also includes a Canine Health Fair starting at 8:30 a.m. and a speakers’ program at 10:30 a.m.
All registered walkers will receive a 2011 K9 Cancer Walk T-shirt and a bandanna for their dog.
Supporters who are not able to attend the walk in Elk Grove are encouraged to participate in the Sit & Stay program, which gives dog lovers a chance to participate virtually in the walk—to help dogs enjoy longer, healthier lives from the comfort of their couch.

An estimated 50 percent of all dogs will battle cancer. It is the No. 1 cause of death in dogs over the age of 2. Morris Animal Foundation launched the K9 Cancer Walk program as a way to raise funds for its Canine Cancer Campaign, which funds prevention and treatment research to help dogs enjoy longer, healthier, cancer-free lives. Participating in this walk is a great way to memorialize a beloved dog lost to cancer and create a brighter future for a current canine companion.

Do you have a dog walk in your area you’d like to share, or one you’d like to start?
