So, um, yeah. . .Michael Vick is taking training classes with his new dog, Angel, a Belgian Malinois. Of course, the fact that he has a dog isn’t exactly news. He tweeted about it last October when he showed a picture that included a box of Milk Bones on his kitchen table. He later deleted the photo and released this statement:
‘‘As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.’’
Mother Jones News points out a certain troubling irony to the timing of these new photos:
Pics of Angel come as the Best Friend’s Animal Society yesterday announced a reunion of 6 of the 22 dogs seized from the disgraced Vick’s infamous Bad Newz Kennels over five years ago. 10 of the nicknamed “Vicktory Dogs” have gone on to loving homes, while the rest remain at Best Friends to continue rehabilitation from their horrendous dogfighting days.
So, what do you think? One argument is that he served his debt to society, learned a valuable lesson about dogs, and should be able to move on and make up for his past transgressions by being a responsible dog owner and passing on his new knowledge to his kids.
