Meet Sophe and Sarah. Their parents Cees Bol and Hanneke van de Watering of The Netherlands post pictures of their everyday lives. Beyond giving people around the world something to smile about, the pictures serve to highlight an endangered breed:

As its name indicates, the breed [Old English sheepdog] originated in the British countryside with similar dogs appearing as early as the beginning of the 19th century when it was used for herding, after which it became a popular showdog thanks to its thick fur.

But it is now in steep decline, and has been put on the UK Kennel Club’s list of endangered dogs with only 316 puppies registered with the organisation last year.

The breed is being hit by the growing popularity of so-called ‘handbag dogs’ such as chihuahuas, the UK Kennel Club says.
