Police Officer Dives into River to Rescue Dog Trapped Under Tree

When officer Mark Smythe arrived at the banks of the Schuylkill River after receiving a call about a trapped dog, he knew he had just moments to react. Even though he had no idea how deep or cold the water was, he jumped in to free the 12-year-old Shepherd mix, who had become trapped beneath a tree. He whisked the dog, named Woody, to a local veterinary hospital, and both policeman and dog turned out fine. Without Officer Smythe’s quick thinking, owner Diane Murphy would probably have lost her beloved companion.
