Most everyone who loves dogs and owns a computer has seen the 2006 YouTube video of Carolyn Scott and Rookie dancing to “You’re the One That I Want” from the movie “Grease.” With almost 7 million hits, it’s one of the most watched “canine freestyle” videos of all time. The pair were the Fred & Ginger of canine freestyle until Rookie passed away in 2008 at the age of 15. But there’s a lot more to their story than meets the eye.
On this week’s episode of 20/20, which airs tomorrow night,Scott talks about how her relationship with Rookie changed her life. She had suffered from polio as a child, which left her debilitated, shy, and retiring. Forty years later, she met this dog that “taught her about being spontaneous and to enjoy life at a different level.” It’s inspirational stuff.
