For some people, the Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is a little too stuffy, a little too focused on pure breeds. Many of these people live right across the river in Brooklyn, where irreverence is a way of life. That’s the theme of the Brooklyn Mutt Show, which seeks to be everything Westminster isn’t. This year’s event featured a Star Wars and Star Trek dog costume contest that would make professional dog handlers cringe. But I think it’s a lot of fun, and these hipsters don’t love their dogs any less than the tuxedo- and gown-wearing crowd at Madison Square Garden.
