We posted last summer about the growing problem of “fake” service dogs muddying the waters for actual, certified service and comfort dogs. This practice puts businesses in a quandary. On one hand, they want to be able to tell folks with fake service dogs to get out, but on the other hand, they have to honor the important role of real service dogs. Plus, there’s that thorny question of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

On Monday, the California Senate held an informational hearing on the issue, and heard from both business owners and people with trained, certified dogs. A video report from KCRA in Sacramento explores all the various perspectives on the problem, as well as some possible solutions.
