Nineteen-year-old Ricky Hatfield says that his two-year-old fox-red Labrador retriever, Maverick, started acting weird about a month ago. Then, last month, the dog head-butted the young man in the groin, something very out of character. When the swelling didn’t go down, Hatfield went to the emergency room, where it was discovered that he has testicular cancer. He believes that Maverick was trying to warn him.
We’ve posted here several times about dogs’ ability to smell cancer and other illnesses in people, and this situation seems to fit the bill. It seems more than a coincidence that the dog would attack the exact spot where the cancer was growing. And now Hatfield has a great prognosis because his illness was discovered early. Way to go, Maverick!
