Here’s a great video about an organization that matches up service members who are deployed overseas with foster parents for their dogs. Dogs on Deployment was founded by husband and wife, Shawn and Alisa Johnson, who serve in the US Navy and US Marine Corps respectively. When they were both deployed, they found that finding a home for their beloved rescue dog, JD, to be a stressfull experience. So they created Dogs on Deployment to help other service members in the same predicament.
