Today is the 11th annual National Dog Day, founded by animal advocate Colleen Paige back in 2004. The stated goal of the celebration is: “to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledge family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.”

I think that this is something that every Orvis Dogs blog reader can get behind. So let’s see you pooches! Here are two shots of my boy, Pedey. Post yours on the Orvis Dogs Facebook page.

Pedey is a real country dog who loves to be outside, no matter what the weather.

Phil, I have a Bouvier des Flandres, and that is what I thought your dog was when I first saw it. That reddish-black beard is very typical, as is the “hair” coat. Maybe look at some pictures and see what you think. Does your dog have herding instincts?
Hi Heather,
Thanks for your note. Pedey’s size (just 14 pounds) is probably what rules out the BdF. And he’s definitely a terrier: he goes after every chipmunk, squirrel, and mouse he sees.
