A dramatic and massive dog-fighting bust yesterday in Benton County, Mississippi, resulted in some 50 arrests and the rescue of 26 pit bulls. Police across Northern Mississippi had been searching for the location of the ring for days, and finally got solid information on Easter morning.
The bust included shots fired, according to Benton County Chief Deputy Joe Batts, and it took a school bus to haul away all those arrested at the scene. A representative of the Humane Society of the United States called the operation “nationally significant,” considering that those arrested were from as far away as New Hampshire and Texas.
