Pro Tips: How to Photograph Black Dogs and Cats


Bringing out a dog’s eyes is key to capturing its personality.

My dog Pedey is a black Poodle/Terrier mix, and my phone is full of terrible pictures of him. It seems that his black fur sucks all of the detail out of his face, which becomes just a blank space. The image below is a good example. On the Mother Nature Network, Jaymi Heimbuch offers five tips for photographing black pets, and I’ll be sure to keep these in mind the next time I try to capture Pedey’s cuteness.
