Unconditional Stories #7: It’s a Family Affair

Written by: Jane Sobel Klonsky, Project Unconditional

Editor’s note: By now, you’re accustomed to seeing the wonderful photographs of older dogs by Jane Sobel Klonsky, which are part of her Project Unconditional. Jane’s daughter, Kacey, has been making short films that focus on her mom’s subjects. (See Laura and Ol’ Red, Walter and Mary, Lacy and Sister Electra, “Better than Birthday Cake,” Spur Girl & Mollie and Rescued by Love.)

San Diego, California—Since they adopted their first senior dog, Ally and her family—who foster for Lionel’s Legacy in San Diego—have continued to look for older rescue dogs. The experience of caring for these seniors has taught her children about the cycle of life and about valuing older animals and people. Kacey Klonsky’s most recent Unconditional Stories video features Ally explaining that, “Everything gets old and it doesn’t mean it is any less valuable. . . .Our kids are seeing that firsthand, seeing that we take care of things to the very end and we let them go with dignity.”
