Seth Casteel’s photos of dogs underwater are suddenly all over the Internet.

We contacted photographer Seth Casteel a couple weeks ago about doing a slideshow here, but the dang Internet beat us to it. The appearance of his images on Reddit.com resulted in widespread acclaim. Casteel, who calls what he does “lifestyle pet photography,” works in both Los Angeles and Chicago. His wonderful website features several galleries of images, as well as a “Saving Pets” section focused on his volunteer work photographing shelter animals:

He volunteers with animal shelters and rescues all over the country, professionally photographing dogs and cats to give them a better chance of finding forever homes. Seth’s professional photos result in increased adoptions and help generate more traffic to the shelters and rescues.

Regarding the underwater shots, Casteel makes it clear that “all the dogs in the photographs have voluntarily gone into the water and under the water. They are choosing to do this. We’re all having fun along the way.” The results are startling, and some of the dogs look quite fearsome. These pictures are fun, interesting, and thought-provoking.
