Vet Promotes Shelter Dogs as PTSD Assistance Animals


We’ve posted many times about services that breed and train service dogs, but one Louisiana vet thinks that this system is unnecessary. Dr. Bob Zepecki, who is both a veteran and a veterinarian, suffers from PTSD and finds great comfort in his dog, Jack. The pair met when Jack was brought into Zepecki’s clinic with a life-threatening crossbow injury, and they bonded.

According to Zepecki, they each help the other when things get tough. Zepecki went on to found “Pets for Vets”, an organization that helps to train rescue dogs to help pick up on PTSD symptoms. As he puts it, this system helps to save two lives.
