We’ve posted many times about the bravery and sacrifices of military working dogs, and one dog in Missouri recently received a remarkable honor. Alma served three tours in Iraq, sniffing out bombs that could harm her fellow soldiers. When her health deteriorated recently, leaving her in a lot of pain, her owner—and fellow veteran;had to make the tough decision to end Alma’s suffering. What happened next was remarkable: she was honored with a Patriot Guard.
According to the organization’s mission statement, “The Patriot Guard Riders is a 100% Volunteer, Federally registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization which ensures dignity and respect at memorial services honoring Fallen Military Heroes, First Responders and Honorably Discharged Veterans.” Alma certainly fits the bill.
