Here’s a wonderful story from Dallas, in which a stray dog known for being elusive allowed himself to be captured so he could save a mother dog and her puppies. Last Tuesday night, when potential rescuers approached the black dog, he didn’t run away, as he had every time before:
But, Tuesday night, he greeted the would-be rescuers with incessant barking.
“He’s never acted like that before and I was worried that maybe he was sick or something that happened to him,” Marina Tarashevsce, an animal rescuer with Dallas Dogrrr.
“I told her, I bet you he’s trying to get you to follow him,” said dog behaviorist John Miller. “Every time we got closer he would go away and bark at us saying, ‘Keep coming. Keep coming my way’.”
When they found the puppies under a log, they named the stray “Hero” for his efforts.
