Here’s a wonderful story from Aurora, Nebraska, where a beautiful Pit Bull named Rosie has a new home with a woman who can understand her challenges. You see, Rosie is deaf, and so is her new owner, Cindy Koch. However, the two will still be able to communicate because Tracie Pfeifle, a dedicated volunteer at the shelter where Rosie lived, took it upon herself to teach the dog sign language.
“We started using treats and putting the treat up to your face and saying ‘good girl’ with your thumb up and then she figured out how, that we were communicating with her,” she said.
‘Good girl, sit, down, stay, outside, and walk’ are basic commands, but Pfeifle says it brought the three-year old out of her shell.
“It was just amazing to watch her just blossom into a dog, I don’t think she knew how to be a dog,” Pfeifle said.
Now Koch plans to continue the training, teaching Rosie more words and commands. It’s a match made in heaven!
