Video: Dogs Make Art to Raise Awareness About Shelters

Given yesterday’s video “Priceless Pets,” and the project described in the video above, it seems like folks in Brazil are really thinking outside the box to help shelter dogs and promote adoption. This art project, called canismo, creates paintings by pouring “paint” (really just edible corn starch and food coloring) on dogs and having them shake it off onto canvases:

Canismo is an artistic movement created by a group of dogs that aims to help with the support and adoption of sheltered animals.

The shake of the paint reveals a remarkable exercise of freedom, where each drop of ink bears the stain of prejudice.

The combination of different colours in the paintings shows the mixture of breeds, as random and as beautiful as each mongrel dog.

Whether or not you like the finished art, the process is wonderful to behold.
