Here’s a great story from The Register-Guard in Eugene, Oregon, about a beautiful dog with a tasty job: searching the forest floor for ripe truffles. Dante the Lagotto Romagnolo uses his incredible sense of smell to discover only the ripe truffles, prized fungi that are used in all kinds of cooking. According to Dante’s owner, Charles Lefevre, any dog can be trained to do this work, so it isn’t breed-specific. This weekend, the Oregon Truffle Festival will include a dog competition, as well.
