Maddie the Coonhound has been a sensation in the Instagram community since her owner, Theron Humphrey, started posting photos of the dog perched on top of things, such as a construction barrel, various signs, and anything else she’d stand on. The photos were soon hosted on a website called Maddie the Coonhound: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics, and they showcase Maddie’s remarkable balance, patience, and good nature.
But as the above video makes clear, the project that Humphrey and Maddie embarked upon wasn’t just a lark. The pair traveled the country to tell the stories of ordinary Americans, and anyone could follow along on on the This Wild Idea website.
That undertaking was such a success that now Humphrey wants to do a similar project to benefit dogs and to promote adoption and rescue:
In late 2012, he began working on Why We Rescue, a month-long storytelling project that documents owners’ positive experiences with rescue animals. Rather than play on people’s pity by focusing on sickly, teary dogs in shelter cages, Why We Rescue pictures what happens when people get their dogs — in other words, absolute joy.
