Max the Beagle loved nothing more than chasing rabbits, but when his owner was in danger, in the form of a charging black bear, Max didn’t think twice before attacking the much larger animal. Jeff Hanna and his two dogs, Max and Pete, were enjoying a nighttime constitutional in the family’s backyard in Haring Township, Michigan, when things got dangerous very fast. A mother bear with three cubs went into protective mode and charged at Hanna. Max managed to distract and engage the bear, while Hanna and Pete made it to the house. Although Max did manage to drive the bear off, his injuries were too great. . .
