After an inspection of a puppy mill in Columbia County, Oregon, revealed “shocking conditions,” rescuers from the Sheriff’s Department and Oregon Human Society moved in to seize more than 100 dogs:
According to OHS, one of the outbuildings that housed the dogs had several piles of fecal waste and no open windows or ventilation.
“These were shocking conditions. Piles and piles of feces and urine and the smell was overwhelming to me at times,” said David Lytle with the Oregon Humane Society. “It’s some of the worst conditions I’ve seen.”
Most of the dogs were small breeds—Dachshunds, Terriers, and Poodles—but there were also 35 Akitas. All the dogs are now being housed in an emergency shelter.
