This is just crazy. When Veronica Covatch’s beloved dog, Piper, disappeared from a friend’s backyard in Ohio in April, it started a bizarre chain of events that has resulted in a battle in the courts and in public opinion. Piper, a prize-winning Sheltie, was picked up by Franklin County Animal Control, who then turned the dog over to a local Sheltie-rescue organization. Good news, right?
But, bizarrely, the Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue refuses to return the dog to Covatch. Even crazier, the rescue now claims, through its lawyer, that they are the legal owner of the dog.
If what Covatch says is true, this is any dog owner’s nightmare. You have to hear this story to believe it.
