Here’s a great story from the Daily Mail: A young Englishwoman on vacation in Cambodia met a sickly little puppy, missing much of its hair and sporting a distended stomach. Unable to watch the poor animal suffer, Elise Dixie took the dog to a local vet, who said the pup was just two weeks from death. Dixie paid for veterinary treatment and arranged for the dog to be cared for when she returned to England.

But she couldn’t get the dog, which she called Snooky, out of her mind, so with the help of her parents, the 26-year-old schoolteacher raised £3,000 ($4,600 US) to fly Snooky to England. The reunion was tearful and joyous:

Miss Dixie, who works at a school in Ipswich, said:”I was certain he wouldn’t know who I was – but he was so happy to see me, wagging his tail. . . .I was bawling my eyeballs out. He’s a great dog and everyone loves him so much.”

It takes a special person to invest herself fully in saving a life, but the rewards far outweigh the cost.
