2013 Fly-Fishing Consumer Show Schedule

[Correction: I accidentally wrote that the Pleasanton, California show was on hold, when in fact, it is the Pasadena show that won’t be held this year. Pleasanton is still on for February 22-24. Sorry for the error.]

Once the holidays are over, it will be time to think about which fly-fishing consumer shows you want to attend. As it has for the last few years, show season kicks off in Denver, although there will no longer be dueling shows on the same weekend. Instead, Coloradoans will enjoy shows a couple weeks apart. January is jam-packed with events, from New Jersey to Calgary, although a couple shows from last year seem to have gone away—the Great Southern Fly-Fishing Show and the Olympic Peninsula Fly Fishing Show—and the Pleasanton, California show is on hold. (If anyone has different information on these shows, please let me know ASAP.) The newest shows are in Winston-Salem, North Carolina (moved from Raleigh) and Lynwood, Washington, outside Seattle.

So find the show nearest you (or the big one you’re willing to travel to) and mark your calendar. Spending two or three days checking out new products, fondling tying materials, or watching one of your heroes on the casting pond is a great way to beat the midwinter blues. These shows are also great places to check out the new Orvis stuff, such as the Helios 2 and the Guide Sling. If you’ve never been to one of these events, check out the video above, which captures the experience of the Somerset, New Jersey show and even offers a bit of Lefty’s presentation.
