Introducing a New Generation to Fly Fishing

John McKinnie, the fly-fishing manager at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, Montana, sent us these great pictures and a description of a unique Fly Fishing 201 class:

Over the past week we have had the pleasure of introducing a lot of kids to the sport of fly-fishing! We had some kids enjoy their first outing on a river, on the Gallatin, and a group of five youngsters who participated in Orvis Fly-Fishing 201 down at our local Big Sky kids’ pond. The highlight of our 201 group was getting a five-year-old hooked into his first fish on a fly rod! Seeing this precocious youngster outfish his two older brothers was fairly entertaining, but in the end everyone caught a fish.

Wadered-up and ready to go, this group wants to put their new skills to the test.

A five-year-old’s first trout is probably the first of a lifetime on the water.

The more kids we can bring into the sport, the brighter the future of our rivers and fisheries will be.
