Welcome to another edition of the OrvisNews.com Friday Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing footage available. Lots of stuff from outside the U.S. on display here, with cool videos from South America (including the Falkland Islands), New Zealand, and Europe. The colors of those European browns are something to behold. Withing our borders, we travel from Virginia, where the muskies are on the feed, to Ohio for steelies, to Colorado, Montana, and beyond. Plus, there’s good saltwater action to get you jacked up for the blitzes about to take place along the Easter Seaboard. It’s really a killer mix. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. But if you do stumble upon something great that you think is worthy of inclusion in a future FFF, please post it in the comments below. See you next week with a fresh set of films!
We kick things off with some gorgeous footage from the bottom of South America, where anglers cast for sea-run brown trout. Killer cinematography here, and the fish ain’t bad, either.
The Day We Caught Nothing from Nick Gates on Vimeo.
You gotta love a video that tells you right up front, in its title, that there are no fish in it, yet it’s still really entertaining because it captures all the non-fish parts of the experience we enjoy.
Sunday Morning Coming Down from Ohio Steelhead Drifters on Vimeo.
It’s almost steelhead time again across the Great Lakes, so here’s some action to get your pump primed. I like that dog’s waterfall technique, too.
These guys are on a quest to catch four species of cutthroats in Colorado: the native Greenback, the Rio Grande, and the Colorado River Cutthroat, along with an introduced species, the Snake River cutthroat.
Here’s some great musky action from the Commonwealth State, with plenty of fish brought to the boat. WARNING: This video starts with some seriously salty language, but the rest is family friendly.
Bonefish from Matthieu GWADAFLY on Vimeo.
One man, one bonefish. That is all.
West Branch Angler Fish Porn from West Branch Angler on Vimeo.
Leaving the website at the bottom of the frame for the entire video is annoying, but there’s lots of cool stuff here: great trout bites and some sweet grip-‘n’-grins from the catskills.
Here’s a video from New Zealand that features nothing but the most important part of fishing: the strike and hookup. Better yet: it’s all slo-mo. Sweet.
Tease Final Cut from LC Journal (Doug Roland) on Vimeo.
Reel-smoking saltwater action on display here, plus some killer underwater images of fish crashing bait.
Höst i Råndalen from Kristoffer Marchi on Vimeo.
Beautiful images of fall here, and the red spots on those trout are spectacular. Pretty sure this is Norway, but I could be wrong.
While we’re in Europe, let’s skip on down to Italy, where they’ve got some stunning browns of their own. Watching that angler work that fish at the end is cool.
Here’s some great stuff from a float on the Beaverhead in Montana. It’s a damn good day of fishing.
51º South: The Reel Governor from 51° South on Vimeo.
Wouldn’t you love to be able to vote for a guy who enjoys fishing this much? Meet Nigel Haywood, Governor of the Falkland Islands and Commissioner for South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Have a great weekend!
