Florida saltwater sport fishermen won an important battle when they scuttled a state plan to manage permit and pompano stocks together. Because pompano can be harvested commercially—and many people have difficulty telling the species apart—anglers believe they need separate rules for harvesting. “The commission made the right move,” said Aaron Adams, executive
director of the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, based in Key Largo. “It is
essential that these species be managed separately.”
