Huge Rainbow Trout in Kamchatka

Orvis is proud to have helped sponsor Reel Water Productions for the filming of an exploration of the Zhupanova River in Kamchatka, Russia.

The film, to be aired on National Geographic television, involves kayakers who braved huge waterfalls, rapids, grizzly bears, and more. They also took advantage of the fantastic fly fishing, catching huge rainbows and Dolly Vardens.

Kamchatka may well be the last place left on earth where large coldwater rivers and complete watersheds run into the Pacific Ocean unimpeded by dams, with the rivers flowing through vast wilderness unmarred by modern development. The runs of many species of wild salmon are prolific and the resident rainbows are among the largest on earth.

An angler and an adventure-seeker’s paradise worth studying and protecting.

Watch the cool trailer below and we’ll keep you updated on the air times for the actual National Geographic show.
