[Editor’s Note: Keep your eyes on the blog for upcoming contests giving away new Silver Sonic Waders and an incredible Helios 2 fly rod!]

As most of you know, we ran a contest throughout the month of August: everyone who left a comment on OrvisNews.com became eligible to win an Orvis Helios Fly Rod of his or her choice. Well, we tallied up all the comments, and plugged the numbers into Random.org, which pointed us to this gem from August 5: . . .

“90%! I surprised myself!”

The commenter was one Kevin Ellis, who chose a 9-foot, 5-weight, Tip-Flex Helios. I asked him to tell us a little about himself, and here’s what he came up with:

My wife Nancy and I have three children, and we live in Peachtree City, Georgia. I was born in Denver, and some of my earliest memories are of going fly fishing with my grandfather on the Taylor River near Almont, Colorado. Now, most of my fly fishing is for rainbows and browns on the Chattahoochee River north of Helen, Georgia, and taking my kids fishing for bluegills on a nearby golf course pond. One of my favorite fishing memories is when my then 4-year-old son used my fly rod to catch his first fish ever, and my daughter exclaimed “I wish I had a fly!” We are four generations of fly fishers, and it has led to some wonderful memories and times spent together!

Kevin’s then 4-year-old son reels in his first fish. Maybe one day,
that Helios will be passed down to this little guy.

Congratulations to our worthy winner, and thanks to all who left comments on the blog. Let’s keep these great conversations going!

Let’s hope Kevin has a lot more adventures like this one with his new fly rod.
