It’s a good week for lovers of online fly-fishing magazines. The latest issue of our favorite Spanish publication, flymage, offers excellent articles on do-it-yourself trips to Chile and the resurgence of bamboo rods, as well as a video on how to tie a sweet caddis emerger. But the piece de resistance is a photo essay by Jason Jagger of trout eating insects off the surface I don’t know how he got some of these shots, but they’re spectacular.

The new This Is Fly has a different focus, with two fine articles on the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which tore up the shoreline around the magazine’s home base in New York. There are also stories on musky hunting in northern Wisconsin, steelheading in New York, and redfishing in Texas. Art lovers have plenty to gawk at, as well. These two magazines complement each other well and are worth a look.
