This week, the Orvis Lodge Retreat is being held at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida, where folks from Orvis-endorsed lodges around the country get together to network and find out what’s new with the company. I get to do a presentation on OrvisNews.com and then, even better, I’ll get a day of tarpon fishing with Steve Hemkens, Orvis’s Divisional Merchandising Manager for Rod & Tackle.
Steve and I got up at 4 a.m. to catch our 7 o’clock flight out of Albany, New York, and we hoped to sneak out in the evening for a little bonefish stalk. I’ve never caught a tarpon, so I was pretty pumped up for this opportunity. As it turns out, however, nothing can stick a fork in one’s excitement better than a 7-hour flight delay. What’s your worst fishing-travel story?
