On Saturday, a three-year project to take down the two large dams on Washington’s Elwha River will begin, signalling the start of a massive dam-removal campaign across the country. The Elwha Dam and Glines Canyon Dam have been blocking fish passage for many decades, so this is a big win for steelhead and Pacific salmon.
