“Ledgewater,” Oil on Canvas, 2013.
by Galen Mercer
Editor’s note: Here’s the latest installment of a new series on angling art. We’ll try to post a new painting, drawing, or sculpture every Wednesday. If you have any suggestions for artists we might feature, let us know below.
Artist Galen Mercer lives along the Battenkill in West Arlington, Vermont. Canadian by birth, he’s the grandson of two painters and the son of another, so it’s kind of in his blood. Here’s what he had to say about this painting:
The river this far up is sequestered and overhung with trees and ridges. Light penetrates, but does so in the manner of chapel gloom. It’s a beautifully sombre, differentiated light, and this was my first attempt at painting it.
You can see lots more of Galen’s art, including great landscapes and nature scenes, at the Galen Mercer Sporting and Fine Art website.
This is a very nice painting. I went to the artists website to see if a print could be purchased, but it does not appear that is possible. Kind of disappointing.
Dear Ken,
Thanks for your kind words about the painting. This oil was a commission and unfortunately there are no copies. I’ve not done any prints or lithographs in years, but should you care to e-mail my website, I’d be happy to notify you in the event of any upcoming editions.
Warm regards,
Galen.
