Thanks to everyone who entered our sweepstakes to win a new Recon fly rod. Yesterday, our contest widget randomized all the entries and spat out a winner: Cole Doiron of Denham Springs, Louisiana, just east of Baton Rouge. We asked Cole to tell us a bit about his fishing life, and here’s what he wrote:

I am 29 years old and work as an engineer in Louisiana. I grew up fishing in South Louisiana. As a kid, I spent practically every weekend fishing with my parents. We would target everything from speckled trout, redfish, and flounder to lemon fish, snapper, and grouper. My passion for fishing has really stemmed from these many excellent memories. Within the past few years, I have taken up kayak fishing in the Louisiana marshes. It was only a matter of time to step outside of my comfort zone with spinning reels and take up fly fishing. My first redfish from the fly was a 7 lbs slot red that I caught on a clouser while sight fishing with my parents. That same day I caught a 1.5 lbs flounder on the fly. I was hooked. When I am not paddling through the marsh looking for redfish, or enjoying a typically excellent day of fishing with my father, I am floating a pond with my wife and daughter. Fishing has been and always will be a major part of my life, and one that I look forward to passing along to my kids.

For his favorite kind of fishing, chasing redfish in the marsh, Cole chose the 9-foot, 8-weight saltwater model.

Thanks to everyone who participated.

Flounder on the fly? Yes, sir. The Louisiana marshes are just that full of life.
