Winter fishing can be mystifying for some anglers. Without regular hatches, it’s hard to know what the fish are eating, and the flies can be very small. Luckily, we have the wit and wisdom of Hank Patterson, world-renowned fly-fishing expert and guide, to help us catch more trout during the coldest months. In this great video, Hank is joined by fellow guide, Chris, who makes a lot of the same mistakes we all do, and Hank uses him as an example to explain his “Three Methodologies” for seeing flies on the water. He’s also got suggestions for breaking from the herd and fishing the birthday cake of flies.
