Classic Video: My First Fish, Through the Eyes of a Child

Wow. Seriously, this is one of the most moving videos we have ever featured on the Fly Fishing blog. “My First Fish” the story of a five-year-old boy’s first experience with steelhead, and it’s just about perfect—with amazing cinematography, a beautiful fish, and an eager child. I’ve been doing a lot of bass fishing with my own son of late, and this video makes me want to get him to Pulaski this fall for steelies.

  1. Phil, you are right. Beautifully done, evoking many wonderful memories of teaching my four kids to fish. But… as a father (and lifelong boater in fresh and saltwater) I cringed at the fact that a five year old was in a boat without a life jacket! Kinda ruined it for me. Sorry to be negative…

  2. Simply beautiful. Can’t wait to the day I can bring my year and a half old daughter out in to the wilds to catch her first fish. Well done!!

  3. Is it just me? But I felt like I was that kid and feel this every time I am by the water.
    PS: and I am 30 😉

  4. After I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any approach you may take away me from that service? Thanks!

  5. All I can say is……..WoW! This really hit home with me as I have a son who just turned two, and his name is Eli as well. We have such fun exploring nature and the outdoors, and I look forward to the days of us sharing the water together. It certainly brought a huge smile to my face at lunch today. Thank you for sharing!

  6. Wonderful video!! Reminds me of when I first taught my kids the fun of fishing. Reminds me of when my Dad taught me. Beautiful!! Well done!
