Classic Video: Ted Williams and the Atlantic Salmon

Here’s a very cool piece of fly-fishing history found on Youtube: a 1960s production of “Ted Williams and Salmo Salar.” In this half-hour production distributed by Sears Roebuck & Co. (for whom Williams was a spokesman), the Splendid Splinter chases Atlantic salmon in Canada, Norway, and Scotland. The quality of those fisheries forty years ago is impressive, and the narrator says that Williams catches upward of 50 salmon per year.

  1. The narrator of the piece is the great John Facenda who achieved national fame as narrator for NFL Films. What a voice!
