Enter the Orvis Fly Tying Contest!

When the snow is flying, it doesn’t get much better than building a fire and sitting down at the bench to tie a few flies.

It’s that time of the year here at Orvis, which is why you’ll find free Fly Tying 101 courses at our retail stores around the country, (find one near you), great Tim Flagler tying videos on the blog, and other ways to celebrate fly tying in the “off season.”

This contest is one of those ways.

Starting today, January 19, through February 8 you can enter our Fly Tying Contest on Instagram. We’re looking for an original creation, a fly straight from your fish brain to the vise that we can put in our Orvis Fly Fishing Catalog.

Post a photo of your original fly on Instagram tagged with #OrvisFlyTyingContest and you’re entered.

Our own Jesse Haller and Tom Rosenbauer will judge the entries on fish and angler appeal.

We’ve got some great prizes.

First prize is your fly featured here in the Orvis Fly Fishing Catalog. (And, yes, you will get royalties!)

Second prize is a new Regal Revolution vise.

Third prize is the new Orvis Premium Fly Tying Kit.

Once again, the contest begins today January 19, 2016 and runs through February 8, 2016 until 11:59p.m. EDT. Good luck

  1. I’ve knoticed that saltwater streamers are not really ‘Orvis ‘ material. I would like to participate, but don’t stand a chance to nymphs and dries or any other ‘trout’ flies.
