Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival 12.21.12

Welcome to another edition of the OrvisNews.com Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing footage available. This week’s collection is being posted on what was supposed to be the end of the world, according to some Mayan calendar or something. Well, we’re still here. However, massive winds at the Home Office meant that we were without power for much of the morning, so I’ve just copied the comments from the filmmakers themselves in some cases, as I endeavor to get the F5 up by lunchtime, so y’all don’t have to actually talk to other people during your break. (God forbid!) Now you can just bury your nose in your monitor/smartphone.tablet and pretend you’re on the water instead of at work. Suffice it to say there’s a ton of cool stuff below, with a very much trouty feel to it. See you next week with a fresh set of films!

268 Casts from Troutification on Vimeo.

“Seven days of fishing in Lapland. Seven days of frustration during the hunt for nonrising and insanely easily spooked trout. This edit is in no way representative for our feelings during that week. You have probably seen it before. A classic mashup of success. Every happy moment that ends with a smile in this film, is a result of hours waiting for rising trout and bad casting spooking them.”

Here is the first teaser from the new Confluence Films production, “Waypoints,” shot around the world. Looks like it’s going to be a killer video, but we’ll havge to wait until next November to see it.

YAMPA DABBA DOO!!! from Tatrofish Films on Vimeo.

“This video illustrates a typical winter trip to the infamous Yampa River tailwater below Stagecoach Reservoir. Starring extreme net man/illuminati fishing guru/and Fly Fishing Outfitter’s jedi knight, John Muir.”

Here is some footage of Phil Rudat Spey fishing for late-summer steelhead on a small stream in the Pacific Northwest.

“Fly Fishing for carp and barbel on the Ngweba Dam, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The Nqweba Dam is part of the Camdeboo National Park. Fly fishing for carp and barbel on the dam is out of this world, with the added bonus of crossing paths with over a meter-long flathead mullet.”

More highlights from 2012 in the Colorado Rockies.

Do What You Do from Hays Doan on Vimeo.

Here’s some fab video from a late-summer trip to the San Juan River in New Mexico and the Florida River in Colorado.

Here’s some cool footage from Estonia, where you can catch brown trout and carp during the same hatch, apparently.

We don’t see too many permit videos, and this one captures the whole process, from cast to grip-and-grin.

Here’s some good stuff from Chilean Patagonia, with tons of trout and some sweet underwater footage.

Our French pals from Bearnishfly.com offer up this gem with fantastic production value, not to mention some gorgeous trout.

Infinity Pools from Fly Fishing Fantasies on Vimeo.

“The warm infinity pools of Disneyland are no match for the frigid yet picturesque waters of BC rivers. When your daughter’s dance troupe is invited to perform at ‘the happiest place on earth,’ you can keep the budget reasonable by volunteering to stay home and go to your own ‘happy place.’ This was the start of our 2012 steelheading season, and the end is yet to come.”

JUST BROWNS 2 from chroniclesofcod on Vimeo.

“Here’s a quick clip-masher composed while on a flight from Calgary to Toronto of some brown trout caught on the Bow River in Alberta, Canada.”

»At least there are no mosquitoes« Finnmark tour 2012 from meefischli on Vimeo.

Great footage from a 3-week trip to fish in the Finnmark Region of Norway.

Some winter fun from British Columbia. I especially like the drop-in slide down the snowbank.

We end with a two-part video from “Wild on the Fly,” focused on musky fishing and featuring Brad Bohen. I’ve never even seen a live musky, but I definitely want to give this a try in the near future.

And here’s Part II. Have a great weekend!
