Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 10.25.12

tic-tic-boom

Welcome to another edition of our weekly trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing. This week, I decided to try something different—something for which many of you might wanna punch me later. We’ll see.

When I put these quizzes together, I try to make them both entertaining and educational. The fact that you folks continue to test yourselves each week speaks to the success of that first goal. But I’ve been wondering if the “educational” part is effective, as well.

With that in mind, I went through the last year’s worth of quizzes and pulled out 10 questions that stumped most takers. That means all the questions here are hard. I’ve even included the percentage of correct responses in parenthesis after each question, but don’t let that intimidate you. Many of you will have seen some, if not all, of these questions before, which should certainly help.

The cool site that we use to create these quizzes has a “Reports” screen that shows exactly how the respondents did on each question. The reports look like this:

Quiz Report

As you can see, some 41% of quiz takers got that one right. So, at the end of this quiz, I’ll be able to go back to each question and compare how well respondents did the first time compared to now. What do you think is going to be the result?

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s NEW book The Orvis Guide to Family Friendly Fly Fishing. This is a great book for anyone who wants to teach their kids (or other people’s kids) or wives how to enjoy our wonderful sport. Last week’s winner was Adrian, whose score was preceded by the word “oof,” if that’s any indication of how well he did.

Take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his scrawlings on the title page.

Good luck!
