Regular readers of this blog know that I like to take one big trip each summer with my buddy/photographer, Sandy Hays. This week, we’re heading north to visit my friend Ted Putnam at Hawk Lake Lodge, the 2019 Orvis International Destination of the Year.
Our goal will be a “western Ontario Grand Slam”: smallmouth bass, northern pike, lake trout, and walleye. I have never actually seen a walleye up close, never mind landed one, so I’m strangely excited by the prospect. Plus, I am psyched to catch bug bronzebacks and pike on topwater flies. (I am bringing the Cohen Baby Mallard, which you may remember from last summer’s trip.)
