Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival 05.09.14

Welcome to a new edition of the Orvis News Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing videos available. This week, we’ve got another 14 videos, with a real international flare. There are fishing adventures from Africa, Lithuania, Tasmania, Slovakia, The bahamas, and more! Plus a few stunners from right here in the U.S. of A.

For best results, watch all videos at full-screen and in high definition. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. But if you do stumble upon something great that you think is worthy of inclusion in a future F5, please post it in the comments below, and we’ll take a look. And don’t forget to check in regularly at The Tug, the Orvis online video theater. See you next week with a fresh set of films!

Regular F5 viewers will be familiar with the Brothers on the Fly series, and here’s the second episode from season 2, in which the brothers explore both old and new waters.

Not much to say about this one from Iceland, except, “Holy crap, look at the size of that trout!” Caught on a 3-weight, to boot.

The boys from GEOBASS head to Mexico to catch bass, trying to forget the horror show of their first attempt south of the border.

What could be more fun than an overnight trip with your buddies to a lake full of trophy trout? I wanna hang with these guys.

Here’s some black-and-white sweetness from Lithuania(?), including gorgeous shots of bugs in the air.

Here’s a sweet little short video that thries to get at the essence of why you’d wake up, put on frozen boots, and head to the river on a frosty fall morning.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, these two guys spend their time ribbing each other, catching huge fish, and trying to avoid getting killed by all manner of beasts.

This video is just chock-full of gorgeous trout from New Mexico.

The Western Lakes of Tasmania offer incredible sight-fishing for huge trout in shallow water. I still dream about the 10-pound rainbow I missed there ten years ago. This isn’t the greatest video, but the landscape and the fish make up for it.

Fishing the Green River in Flaming Gorge when the cicadas are out is a recipe for success.

We’ve posted twice about Tom Gordon’s angling trip around the world (see here and here), and this video sums up the entire experience.

Cross another country off the F5 list: Here’s our first ever video from Slovakia, where the chub and barbel fishing is good fun.

Shooting with the Sony fs700, these guys were able to show fly-fishing in sweet slo-mo, which is pretty cool.

This is a pretty cool project: Two guys set out on an experience to fly fish two different ecosystems, without much knowledge of either area. On their own in The Bahamas and with guides in Manitoba, they endure testy weather and elements to catch a variety of both saltwater and freshwater species.
