Welcome to a new edition of the Orvis News Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing videos available. This week, we’ve got a cool dozen videos that oughta get you pumped up for the weekend, whether you’re chasing trout, pike, or tarpon.
For best results, watch all videos at full-screen and in high definition. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. But if you do stumble upon something great that you think is worthy of inclusion in a future F5, please post it in the comments below, and we’ll take a look. And don’t forget to check in regularly at The Tug, the Orvis online video theater. See you next week with a fresh set of films!
We kick things off with this cool trailer for a documentary about U.S. Highway 20, which connects some of the West’s most famous fly-fishing waters.
A few weeks ago, we featured a stunning video by Vaidas Uselis, and this production offers much of the same magic. Shot deep in the Swedish woods, it features lovely scenery and great fishing action.
We get so few permit-fishing videos, I’m always excited when I run into one. Shot on the flats of Cuba, this one offers some good action and big fish.
As far as GoPro videos go, this production about early-season fly fishing in Idaho is quality stuff.
This video about late-night fishing for sea-run brown in the south of Sweden is really beautifully shot.
Just two minutes of German pike fishing from a rowboat, capturing the simple pleasures of an angling life.
This one’s just a lark: a father-son excursion (on Father’s Day!) on a lake in the Adirondacks for smallies and pike. Looks like a great time.
This is a couple years old, but it was posted to the comments of last week’s F5 and deserves a replay. Game-Fish Status for striped bass would go a long way to restoring the stocks of big fish.
This is only tangentially a fly-fishing video, but it’s a lot of fun. Who wouldn’t wanna hang out at the lake with their buddies?
If you like jumping fish, you’re gonna love this tarpon-and-snook video from the Everglades.
Here’s an episode of the Scandinavian show “Fly TV,” in which the hosts chase huge pike in shallow water. The description of the video includes the phrase “true killing machines,” which oughta be enough to pique your interest.
This is a long (25-minute) documentary about fly-fishing in Chile. It’s really an ad for a lodge, but there’s so much cool footage, you won’t mind the sales pitch.
I wonder how much a small piece of land is in Chile??? How beautiful!!! Anyone want to fund my trip there??? I’ll show you my pics and videos
Great videos! Kept me busy for about an hour!!
awesome!
This is by far the best blog on the internet! I have probably watched all those videos 10 times by now.
Here’s a video of three days with my dad, who taught me to fly fish and my 8 year old son who I’m teaching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toSmCBk2AzY
