Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival 08.16.13

Welcome to a new edition of the Orvis News Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing videos available. We have a great selection this week, eighteen more videos that will take you to amazing angling destinations.

For best results, watch all videos at full-screen and in high definition. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. As you know, I am a huge fan of small-stream fishing, and this video from photographer Austin Trayser captures the experience beautifully. Plus, those are some sweet rainbows.

Capt. Lacey Rush travels from her home in Florida to check out the flats fishing in San Pedro, Belize. Plenty of killer tarpon leaps, and it looks like a Grand Slam was in the cards.

From Russia’s remote Kola Peninsula comes this cool video about Atlantic-salmon and trout fishing in pristine wilderness.

There have been a bunch a great videos of fishing the salmonfly hatch on the Deschutes this year, but I hope you can take one more. The split screen is a kind of cool idea.

Thousands of miles to the south, these South African fly fishermen are chasing scaly yellowfish, also known as “scalies” or golden rockets.

From Western Fly Media, here’s a sweet look at some great fishing spots in Montana, with cool action and “not so much talking.”

Oppland is a mountainous county in Norway, where they grow grayling and trout pretty big. I really dig that guy’s orange flannel shirt, too.

Summer in the everglades offers plenty of opportunities for big snook, tarpon, and redfish. The shot of those big snook hugging the beach is especially cool. “Wait, wait wait. Wait, wait. You got it!”

Another great video from Sweden–featuring the now de rigeur Tallest Man on Earth soundtrack–covers the breadth of the fishing experience, from fly casting for char in summer to pulling big pike through the ice.

Here’s some great dry-fly footage shot during hatches of blue-winged olives and drakes, with some hopper action thrown in for good measure..

Our favorite French anglers, from Bearnishfly, produced a matched pair of videos this week. First up: “Day.” They do a great job of showing trout in their lies, especially the ones under cover.

Followed by, you guessed it, “Night.” There are lots of great shots of big trout eating bugs off the water and the occasional dry fly.

The picture quality is great here, but I love videos that take us from the initial cast to the landing of a single fish (without taking 5 minutes to do so).

Wonderful stuff from Austria’s Isar River and its tributaries. For a self-shot video, this one offers a lot of action and great framing.

Good stuff from a steelheading trip to Idaho earlier this year.

This looks like an amazing trip into Skieltajokk, a small stream in northern Sweden that’s is limited to a small number of anglers per year. It’s known for big grayling, but that brown at the end is a doozy.

Dry flies and dredlocks in Dordogne, France. Not much action, but some gorgeous river scenes.

Do you like to dance? This hodgepodge video from the Green River and the Henrys Fork will have you tapping your toe and dreaming about a trip out West. These guys seem to know how to have a good time. Stay for the roadside surgery scene, too. Warning: a fair amount of salty language.
