Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival 08.30.13

Welcome to a new edition of the Orvis News Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing videos available. We have a great selection this week, twenty more videos that will take you to amazing angling destinations.

For best results, watch all videos at full-screen and in high definition. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. But if you do stumble upon something great that you think is worthy of inclusion in a future F5, please post it in the comments below, and we’ll take a look. And don’t forget to check in regularly at The Tug, the Orvis online video theater. See you next week with a fresh set of films!

We kick things off with a moody, but action-filled video from Los Roques, featuring some dramatic lighting and gorgeous bonefish. Some very cool cinematography in this one.

Just amazing brown-trout fishing on Russia’s Kola Peninsula.

Great stuff from Oregon, where a few friends get into some sick fish. Their take on the “driving to the river” scene is way better than most, as well.

Sweet popper fishing for largemouth bass, plus perhaps the cutest girl ever featured on the F5. What could be better?

Great stuff from the Land Down Under, shot on the Rubicon and Goulburn Rivers around Thornton in Victoria near Lake Eildon.

Is there enough Michael Jackson in your life? This hot video from the Cayman Islands might make everything better.

Usually, when I point out an odd musical choice, it’s because the music is too intense for the visuals. This baby-tarpon video takes the opposite strategy.

This is one of the funkiest Atlantic-salmon videos we’ve seen, with a little bit of striper (no, not Stryper) thrown in for good measure.

I love to see kids getting into fly fishing, and it’s hard to imagine that these youngsters aren’t completely hooked after such a great day on the water.

A group of guys fly from the Netherlands to western Alaska for some serious salmon fishing and leg wrestling, and find success at both.

My friend Todd Tanner of Conservation Hawks was just talking about this creek on Monday, and here a video of it shows up on Wednesday. Fate? You be the judge.

Here’s the fly-fishing version of “the dog ate my homework.”

Here’s a great compilation video. It’s amazing what you can do with a bunch of short scenes if the action is good.

I like a video with a little narrative, and this one tells the story of a man escaping a shopping mall and running to a trout stream. Sorta.

You know how I love the small streams, and here’s some sweet little-fish action from the Colorado Rockies.

And then the camel says, “Guess what day it is!” Great action from British Columbia’s Squamish River.

Mike Dawkins of WorldCast Anglers shot this little dance of love between two kokanne salmon in an Idaho stream. Love, exciting and new. . .

There are some serious slob rainbows in this videos of a couple of guys kicking around on Eagle Lake.

This is some sort of advertisement, but that doesn’t matter. Rarely do we get such a cool aerial view of a trout stream. This is the stuff of dreams.

If you’ve got the time, check out this 20-minute film about two friends fly fishing for sea trout in Bornholm, a beautiful danish island in the Baltic Sea during 2 weeks in spring 2013. It’s a pretty ambitious project for amateur filmmakers.

  1. This was our entry into an online film competition. We wanted to represent the saltwater fly fishing film makers in this competition. The shots in this short film are from movies that will be released in the near future.
